Growing Project
Each spring, Orchard Hill invites participants to sponsor a “row of crops” by donating $25 or more to purchase seeds for planting. We have eighty acres (near Dike) designated for this project. While the seed is donated by our congregation, the harvest depends on the local farmers. Many of them donate their time, equipment, gas, semis, etc to harvest the crops. This project has a multiplying effect!
In the past few years, we've been able to encourage our Mozambique partners with agricultural initiatives after a cyclone damaged their crops, partnered with Try Pie in the purchase of their food truck, supported Agricultural college students in Haiti as they get their degrees (which will impact the food sustainability in Haiti as they share their learnings), and help purchase a tractor for agricultural use in Jamaica. (See more below) These are just a few of the ways this project is able to impact the world.
If you'd like to give to this project this year, it will make an impact! Visit orchardhillchurch.org/give, select option you wish to give, then select the Giving Type as “Growing Project." You may also drop a check in the offering on a Sunday, with "Growing Project" in the memo. Thanks for being a part of this mission!
Jamaican Deaf Village (JDV) in Mandeville, Jamaica
The Growing Project in May 2024 was able to help purchase a tractor for the Jamaican Deaf Village in Mandeville, Jamaica. The tractor landed in Mandeville in November 2024. The Jamaicans are so thankful for the tractor as they have been using it for plowing and field expansions. It's been used for multiple implements to plow, soil turnover, and some planting!
For over 12 years, BASIC (our college & young adult ministry) has sent short-term teams to serve at the Caribbean Christian Centre for the Deaf (CCCD) in Jamaica. CCCD exists to reach, teach, and nurture the Deaf of Jamaica so that they can experience the joy of knowing Jesus and serving within their community. BASIC teams have joined this mission by building relationships & serving at two of the CCCD campuses, both in Kingston & Knockpatrick.
The Jamaican Deaf Village (JDV) is an extension of CCCD that serves Deaf adults & their kids. BASIC teams have visited JDV multiple times and have learned about their mission to employ Deaf adults through farming, construction, woodworking, sewing, catering, and cattle.
In March 2025, the BASIC team had the privilege of visiting the farm at Knockpatrick and meeting Shandell, Vince, and Richard. Their work ethic and dedication to cultivating the land in Jamaica left a lasting impression—something that’s clearly reflected at the JDV campus as well.
