A structure for a few minutes alone with God
(From A Great Thirst teaching - 2/10/08)

Get alone

Get quiet

*Take several deep breaths. Relax your body. These simple acts help our heart, soul and mind to become quiet.

Greet God

You can simply say ...
"Here I am..."
"Help me to hear your voice..."
"Please guide me today ..."

Give Him your day

If it’s morning, walk through your day with Him. Ask for help or wisdom or guidance or courage where you need it. Give Him your worries. Confess that you are having a hard time with a co-worker. Speak honestly with Him about your real life.

If it’s evening, walk back through the day you just lived. Ask Him to make it right. Confess where you missed the mark. Express gratitude for good things

Be Quiet

Sit quietly, inviting God to "speak" or prompt your thinking.
You may hear nothing ...
You may find new insight into a struggle ...
You may discover that you owe someone an apology ...
Give God the chance to get a word in edgewise.
You may also use this time to read a short passage of Scripture, understanding that "the address where the voice of God can most often be found is the Bible." (Dallas Willard)

Thank Him

Thank Him for being with you day or night.
Then, go live your day with expectant awareness
Or, go to sleep trusting He holds your life in His hands.
