We're following the current teaching series, "Fighting Back," as we learn how to battle against the spiritual inhibitors of guilt, anger, greed, jealousy, lust and pride.
Read Psalm 123
I lift up my eyes to you,
to you whose throne is in heaven.
As the eyes of slaves look to the hand of their master,
as the eyes of a maid look to the hand of her mistress,
so our eyes look to the Lord our God,
till he shows us his mercy.
Have mercy on us, O Lord, have mercy on us,
for we have endured much contempt.
We have endured much ridicule from the proud,
much contempt from the arrogant.
Reflect
When we're jealous, we often take our eyes off God and fix them on another person, and on ourselves. Where does the psalmist say our eyes should be fixed?
Respond
God, may I look to you for my every need. May I keep my eyes fixed constantly on you. When I feel jealous or envious, remind me to turn my attention to your goodness, faithfulness, and provision instead. Amen.
