More Than Words
April, May, 2013
Have you ever noticed that the Bible (and our churches) use unusual words when we describe what Christians believe? We use words like: holy, kingdom, righteous, redeemed, worship, sin and grace. We also use phrases that are difficult to grasp like: word and deed, spirit and truth, forgiveness and grace, salt and light.
In this series we hope to get beyond these unusual words in order to gain a clearer picture of some of what Christians believe about God, about ourselves and about our future with God. We are excited about this opportunity to clear up some of the fog about our journey in understanding God and living our lives for Him.
Stories From the Seats 2013
April, 2013
We believe that by learning how God works in the lives of others, we more clearly see the way God works in our own. After Easter, we celebrate the fact that the risen Jesus is at work impacting ordinary folks in real and powerful ways! Join us and hear stories from the lives of people who attend Orchard Hill and reflect on how you see God at work in your life.
Easter 2013
March 31, 2013
Easter is the source of our hope and the foundation of our faith. Many of us go through periods of hopelessness just as the disciples did when Jesus was crucified. The good news is that we no longer have to live in that hopelessness. Jesus Christ has risen from the dead giving us the opportunity to discover a new hope for our lives!
Galatians
March, 2013 Our teaching team will be teaching through the book of Galatians. This book is actually a letter that the apostle Paul wrote to a number of churches in an area called, Galatia. Paul is upset with these new Christ followers because they have abandoned the true faith. Each week in this series the teacher will walk us through a different theme from Galatians, though the overall theme of the letter is the difference between “law” and “grace.” We invite you to follow along by reading through the book of Galatians over the next 4 weeks. Read through it once, read through it once a week, or read through it every day!
Whatever You Do
February, 2013 The intent of this series is to clearly communicate one truth. Whatever work you do…matters to God! It matters more than you will ever guess. It matters for all of eternity. It matters because God created us to do good work. The story of the scriptures starts with God working, “In the beginning God created…”
We want to inspire people to remember that all that they do honors and glorifies God, as they do all of life on purpose with excellence and passion, in tune with God. We honor and glorify God when we do our paid and our unpaid work, when we do work in the marketplace, or in our homes, or within our leisure. We honor God when we do our work with excellence and with passion.
Homework: A Series on Family
January, 2013 As followers and students of Jesus Christ, he has given us much work to do at home as we participate in his grand design of living and growing in families!
Our families can be a tremendous force for good and bring great joy. They can also be one of the most pain filled and discouraging aspects of our lives. Sometimes both are true at exactly the same time.
Our goal in this series is to help move families from where they are to where they want to be. We hope to help families intentionally take steps that will make their families more God-centered, more fun, more peace-filled and more connected.
The Clock is Ticking
December 30, 2012 The end of one year and the beginning of the next provides a good time for us to examine ourselves and our relationship with God. To consider facts such as the brevity of human life; The certain judgement which follows our death; Salvation through Christ alone and to realize that how we live in the coming year of 2013 really does matter.
God's Gift this Christmas
December 2012 Our teaching team was talking about how hectic the Christmas season can be for all of us. We were telling stories about the busyness and how that busyness can steal the joy and peace of Christmas. In the midst of that discussion, one of our teachers said, “You know, for some of us and our folks, the church services themselves might be the one place to experience joy and peace this Christmas season.” We reflected upon that statement and formulated the plan for this series. We want the series to be joy-filled and peaceful time for focusing upon some of the gifts that God has given to us at the birth of Christ and in our lives today. We will remember this amazing story of Christ’s birth…”I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord. This will be a sign to you; You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.” Luke 2:10-12 The four gifts our teachers will focus upon during the series are: the gift of himself, the gift of perfect timing, the gift of a new thing, and the gift of mysterious surprises.
Living a Rich Life
November - December 2012 Life is not measured by the balance in one's bank account, nor by the size of your home or accumulated toys. Jesus was clear, “… store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. “ Matthew 6: 20-21
Gathering & Growing a Community of Hope
November 4, 2012 Listen to Pastor Judy Marshall's GREAT introduction about the Harvest Vineyard, their history, what they've learned and the calling that God has for this church. Orchard Hill and Harvest Vineyard Church enjoy a partnership that promotes Christian Community Development. This teaching, given at the Harvest Vineyard Church's 9 year birthday celebration, explains this partnership and these concepts.
Everything New
October - November 2012 Getting an overview of the New Testament can help us understand how God was working in the world through Jesus and those new Christians in the first century after Jesus' life. This series breaks the New Testament into six sections and attempts to tie the whole New Testament together from beginning to end.
Voting: The Heart of the Matter
September 30, 2012 As followers of Christ we must walk through this election season focusing on what is good, peaceable, considerate and humble, while slandering no one. God is more concerned with our hearts than He is with how we vote.
Life Verse
September 2012 We know that one of the greatest catalysts in helping people grow spiritually strong is engagement with God's Word, the Bible. No matter where a person is at in life, when they make a habit of listening to and obeying what God has said to us in His Word, they grow spiritually strong. Our series "Life Verse" is designed to help people discern how God might be speaking into their lives through a single verse of Scripture.
Vision
August 19, 2012 We want you to know who we are as a church. We want you to know because our hope is that you will not just attend on Sunday mornings, but that you would find a place to grow and serve Christ with passion. This teaching is our attempt to pull back the curtain and let you take a look.
Storytellers
July - August 2012 Stories have power. One of the great things about the Bible is that it is filled with stories. Each teacher in this series shares a story from scripture that has inspired or challenged them.
So Many Questions
June - July 2012 Read through any of the Gospels and you will quickly notice that Jesus loved a good question and welcomed question-askers. We do too! We believe good, honest questions are a sign of faith, not of doubt. In this series our teachers explore real questions asked by the people that call Orchard home.
The First 50
May 2012 What happened after the Resurrection? Where did Jesus go? How did the church start? This post-Resurrection series takes a look at these questions and examines the first fifty days of the church.
