Missions
Caravan (website)
Caravan is a high-adventure, faith-building summer trip for
high school students. In 2004, Caravan added mission day options,
allowing students and staff to sign up for one or two days of
serving in the community they are visiting. Students and staff
have served in homeless shelters, food banks, soup kitchens,
nursing homes, churches, and thrift stores in cities including
Daytona Beach, New York City, and Sherkston Shores (along Lake
Erie in Ontario, Canada). The mission day option is available
on a trip-to-trip basis.

Assistance to Help Rebuild Widow's Home
In fall 2007, Orchard Hill Church partnered with Lake Charles Vineyard Church (where Orchard Hill volunteers stayed and worked during the Hurricane Relief trip in 2005) to financially assist a widow who lost her home in the hurricane, and then her husband to a serious illness months later. The money she received helped pay the contractor who has been rebuilding her home.
Aid to Relocated Family
Orchard Hill Church partnered with St. Stephen the Witness Catholic
Student Center and others local churches to help a family return
to their home in New Orleans after living in Waterloo for the past
year. After their home was damaged in the hurricane, they relocated
to Waterloo to work and be near other family members. They returned
to New Orleans in October 2006 with the help of Cedar Valley churches.
Hurricane Relief Trip
Many people
from Orchard Hill and surrounding churches joined together to
reach out to victims of Hurricanes Katrina and
Rita. Orchard Hill and Heartland Vineyard Church partnered to
lead a
group of 22 individuals who traveled to Lake Charles, Louisiana
in October 2005 to help with the relief effort. This group
transported a semi full of supplies donated by the community
and spent a week
cooking and delivering over 4500 meals to victims and relief
workers, working in a distribution center to hand out supplies
to families
in need, and helping families clean up and cope with the destruction
of their homes. Locally, the community contributed to the relief
effort by serving from home. People donated supplies & food,
money, packing materials, and a semi and transportation costs,
and volunteered their time by receiving and organizing donations,
helping load the truck, organizing volunteers, and preparing
for the trip.
