[MISSION] The mission of the Orchard Hill Student Ministires is to help students in the Cedar Valley become more fully devoted followers of Christ no matter where they are at on their faith journey.

[STRATEGY] Our strategy is to help students engage in relationships in the same way Jesus did while here on earth.  These are: Large and Mega Group experiences - Small group experiences - One-on-One experiences. We organize weekly LARGE group ministry events called CHAOS (junior high), BIGhouse (high school), and BASIC (college). Through these events SMALL GROUP opportunities are programmed as part of CHAOS, offered following BIGhouse, as well as through our BASICplus small group ministry of BASIC.

[WHY] We deeply believe that as student ministry leaders we can be more EFFECTIVE and EFFICIENT at helping students become more fully devoted followers of Christ if we lay down demoninational flags and raise the banner of Jesus Christ to unite with other local churches and youth directors! We believe that by uniting our passions, strengths, and spiritual gifts that we will be able to reach a much greater number of students in the Cedar Valley for Jesus than by ourselves.

Born and raised in Cedar Falls, I came to faith in Christ in high school through the ministry of Young Life and began attending Orchard Hill part-time in high school as one of the first students invited into the youth ministry “on the arm of a trusted friend.” In 1992 I married Cindy, my long-time friend from high school, upon our graduation from Iowa. We have 3 kids and enjoy cheering them on in soccer, football, baseball, swimming, basketball, music and the arts. We also love the outdoors – running, biking, hiking – and watching movies. We love time with our friends doing just about anything. My wife is a physical therapist for Covenant Home Health. I was called into college ministry at Orchard in 2005 after 11 years in sports broadcasting, video production, and marketing. I am growing into a leadership role with our student ministry team. It is an honor and privilege to walk with and encourage college students in their faith. I am passionate about knowing and experiencing God more with others through community, missions, God’s Word, story, and worship.

I am one of those lucky people who loves what I do. College Ministry and my partnership with my truly amazing husband Shawn, in marriage and raising our six children is a rewarding, stretching and exciting endeavor. I love that our whole family can be involved in ministry whether it is hanging out at home with college age people or taking off for a Spring Break Mission Trip. Personally I find energy, working with a great team, meeting with students for coffee, leading small groups and walking with people as they wrestle with big questions. It is a great privilege to watch college students strive to follow Jesus as they build community, study the word and volunteer in big ways, with BASIC, CHAOS, Big House and in Children’s ministry
